Sometimes you don’t need a full trip.
You just need a change of environment, and that’s exactly what this Portland hotel stay turned into.
While we were living in Washington, I kept finding myself wanting something warmer, something that felt like a reset without needing to plan a full getaway. So we took a quick drive down to Portland for a one-night stay, late checkout included, and it ended up being exactly what I needed.
Why The Porter stands out among Portland hotels
We stayed at The Porter Hotel, and it immediately felt like one of those Portland hotels that balances city energy with actual relaxation.
It’s a Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Award-winning hotel and ranked in the top 10 in the Pacific Northwest, which you can feel the moment you walk in. The design, the layout, and the overall atmosphere all feel elevated without being overwhelming.
The real reason I booked this stay
Not pictured in most posts, but the real highlight was the wellness floor.
That was the entire reason behind this trip.
The pool, jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna made it feel less like a quick overnight stay and more like a full reset. It gave that spa-day energy without needing to book multiple appointments or plan anything extra.
It was exactly what I was hoping for.
Slowing down and actually enjoying the stay
We kept everything simple.
Dinner out, a slow morning, and coffee in bed while looking out over the city. I even stopped by the hotel’s coffee shop to bring breakfast back upstairs, which made the whole experience feel even more relaxed.
Those slower moments ended up being the best part.
Xport rooftop and the overall experience
The rooftop at Xport Bar and Lounge is one of the standout features.
Even though it was closed for a private event during our stay, I was still able to step up and see the space. It’s one of those spots that gives you a full view of the city, paired with cocktails and a really well-designed atmosphere.
It’s easy to see why it’s considered one of the best rooftop experiences among Portland hotels.
Why this kind of stay is worth it
Not every trip needs to be long or far.
Choosing the right hotel can completely change how a short stay feels. This was one of those Portland hotels that made it easy to step away, reset, and actually enjoy the time without overplanning anything.
